The issue is not about having a clean life or about trying to live such a life because on your own you can never live a righteous life. He gave you a stand to be right with him and that is through his Son our lord Jesus Christ.
He always finds means to bring us close to himself. And this is self actualisation of ones blunder and recognition of blame for ones sin, and not that alone, He also gives us the platform to come to him with no self guilt and that is through confession.
Confession is one the powerful tool of Christian. Due to this anyone who fails to acknowledge his/her sins and thus confess them is not giving him/herself chance to be right with God.
The devil acknowledges this authority bestowed upon Christians so, he devise means to make you feel not worthy of Gods love through your mind.
He reminds you of your sins and causes you to even forget your saving grace. Now he is able to do that because you have not acknowledged your sins yourself. So importantly, if a christian recognizes his flaws and make spiritual amends, he destroys every blackmail of Satan.
If not a christian who dwells in his past sin will never be right with God, not because God hates them, but because they have not confessed and surrended to HIM....making it difficult for God to reach them.
Never fall under the blackmail of Satan, take a bold step and confess your sins to God and reinstate yourself into the covenant of the Messiah and i bet you that satan can never have authority over you through your past sinful life....
The scripture says that "whoever is in christ is a new creation...that he/ she to behold that old things are past away and all things have become new
...
